Dementia Training:

Practical Training for a Practical Workforce

Are you after dementia training that will actually translate into practice? Sick of the death by PowerPoint approach or watching simulated cartoons of how to support people living with dementia - a one size fits all approach?

Our training is different. Its practical hands on training for a practical workforce. Our participants tell us that they learn new skills and techniques that they easily implement directly after attending our training. That’s important - There is no point in having training if it doesn’t carry over into practice!

So what makes our approach different?

Our training is based on a Positive Approach to Care the evidenced based approach developed by American Occupational Therapist and Dementia Expert Teepa Snow. At Thrive we are one of only a few providers in Australia to be credentialed to teach Teepa’s Positive Approach to Care.

Our training is based on understanding what’s happening for the person living with dementia - understanding their brain change, how they take in information from the world around them and how this may impact on what you see - their interactions that we may label as “behaviours”. We teach simple (yet powerful) strategies to change our approach - to compensate for the changing brain. Leading to better engagement and connection and a better way to support people living with dementia, to maximise independence, create better experiences, maintain dignity and minimise those “behaviours”.

We can provide our Dementia Training to everyone - at home carers, clinical staff or non clinical staff.

We currently provide training options for:

  • Onsite or online group training for Health, Aged Care and Community Care teams

  • One on one onsite training for personal care workers

  • Onsite or online training for carers and family / friends of people living with dementia
